A federal lawsuit filed by The Walt Disney Co. and Universal City Studios Productions targeting an AI firm and image generator could signal a “tectonic” shift in copyright litigation, experts said.
The complaint, filed in Los Angeles federal court on Wednesday alleges that the artificial intelligence company Midjourney unlawfully produced “endless unauthorized copies” of copyrighted work through its image-generating service. The lawsuit accuses Midjourney of direct and secondary copyright infringement under the Copyright Act.
