For Darbie Tamsett, the practice of law is both legacy and innovation. Raised in a family deeply rooted in entrepreneurship and real estate investing, she built on that foundation to forge her own path as a first-generation attorney with a dynamic dual practice in real estate and mergers and acquisitions.
Tamsett began law school at the University of St. Thomas School of Law at just 20 years old, driven by a clear ambition to combine her entrepreneurial instincts with the structure and strategy of the law. From the outset, she was drawn to building — building companies, structuring complex transactions, and helping clients turn vision into scalable success. Her business-minded approach gives her clients more than legal analysis; it gives them strategy.
Her dual focus in M&A and real estate allows her to guide clients through sophisticated transactions with efficiency and cohesion. Since acquisitions often involve significant real estate components, Tamsett’s integrated practice eliminates the inefficiencies that can arise when multiple advisors are involved. Clients benefit from streamlined execution, practical solutions, and counsel that understands both the deal and the dirt.
Since joining Hellmuth & Johnson, Tamsett has intentionally expanded her practice, taking on increasingly complex transactions and developing long-term client partnerships. Early mentorship from firm leadership including Blake Nelson and Chad Johnson provided her with significant responsibility at the outset of her career, an experience that accelerated her growth and sharpened her transactional acumen. That foundation, paired with her drive and entrepreneurial mindset, has enabled her to build a thriving and focused practice.
Outside of her legal work, Tamsett is completing her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification. For Tamsett, this is a pursuit that reflects her belief in discipline, balance, and intentional growth. Tamsett views yoga as more than a physical practice; it is a framework for focus, resilience, and clarity under pressure.
Those same qualities define her approach to law: steady in challenging moments, strategic in execution, and grounded in building lasting strength for her clients. Tamsett is also the proud owner of a Bernese Mountain Dog named Yogi Bear, who serves as a daily reminder that even the most driven professionals benefit from perspective, presence, and a little joy.
As she looks ahead, Tamsett remains focused on one objective: helping her clients build, protect, and grow what they have worked hard to create.
