A federal judge on Thursday blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order denying birthright citizenship, calling the directive “blatantly unconstitutional” and questioning the legal work behind it.
In a brief hearing in the Seattle federal courthouse, U.S. District Senior Judge John Coughenour of the Western District of Washington said “it boggles the mind” that “any member of the bar” could think the order denying citizenship to a U.S.-born child of unauthorized residents was constitutional.
