California’s judiciary continues to grow more racially and ethnically diverse, even as that growth has stagnated for one key segment of the state’s population, according to statistics released this week by the governor’s office and the judicial branch.

Almost 42% of the state’s judges and justices in 2024 described themselves as non-white, the Judicial Council reported in a statutorily mandated report. That’s up from 39.7% in 2023.
