The Trump administration filed a notice of appeal Wednesday asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to review a trial court’s order finding probable cause for criminal contempt on allegations the government willfully disregarded a temporary restraining order prohibiting hasty “Alien Enemy” deportations.
U.S. District Chief Judge James Boasberg of the District of Columbia ruled the government willfully disregarded his March 15 TRO by deporting alleged Venezuelan gang members to the CECOT prison in El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 after he had prohibited such action.
