A Winston & Strawn spokesperson declined to comment on whether Lowell’s departure had anything to do with the representation of James, who faces a criminal referral from a Trump administration official.
Abbe Lowell, a high-profile, white-collar criminal defense attorney who once represented Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, has left Big Law to form his own law practice, and New York State Attorney General Letitia James is one of his first clients.
Lowell departed from Winston & Strawn nearly seven years after he joined the firm from Norton Rose Fulbright. He’s currently representing James in a matter concerning Trump administration officials who are purportedly looking into James’ real estate transactions.
