Jenna Ellis may be too dumb to work in traffic court. She may be too incompetent to be fired for cause. She may be too stupid to know that trailing after a drunk, flatulent Rudy Giuliani is a bad career move. And she may be too credulous to anticipate that Donald Trump would turn on her in a New York minute if she dared to cross him.
But Jenna Ellis is smart enough to do what has to be done to keep her ass out of jail. And so she is flipping on her election-denying co-conspirators. Again.
Ellis already dimed out Rudy and the gang in Georgia in October, pleading guilty to one felony count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings and tearfully promising to help the Fulton County District Attorney any way she can. And yesterday she repeated the act — minus the public waterworks — in Arizona.
In April, Ellis, was indicted along with Giuliani, Mark Meadows, Boris Epshteyn, Christina Bobb, Mike Roman, John Eastman, and that state’s fake electors for conspiracy to commit fraud and forgery. The parties are charged with serious felonies (Class 2, 4, and 5), with the potential of years in jail if convicted. Notably, attorney Ken Chesebro, who also pled guilty in Georgia, was not charged and appears in the indictment as “Unindicted Coconspirator 4.”
In a plea agreement signed Monday, the state agreed to drop charges against Ellis if she sings like a bird:
Jenna Ellis shall waive the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination and shall provide truthful information in any and all interviews given to representatives of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, and shall testify completely and truthfully at any time and any place requested by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, including at any state or federal grand jury proceeding, forfeiture proceeding, bond hearing, pretrial hearing, civil and criminal trial, retrial or post-trial hearing.
“This agreement represents a significant step forward in our case,” Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said in a press release announcing the deal. “I am grateful to Ms. Ellis for her cooperation with our investigation and prosecution. Her insights are invaluable and will greatly aid the State in proving its case in court.”
This is very bad news for Rudy Giuliani who leaned hard on former Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers to reconvene the legislature to steal the state’s electoral votes for Trump, along with the various campaign officials who coordinated the plan to assemble the state’s electors. If Trump were a self-reflective sort of man, he might wonder what might have been if he hadn’t excommunicated his former campaign lawyer, cutting her off from legal funding and trashing her publicly for the unforgivable sin of tepidly supporting Ron DeSantis in the primary.
It’s been a long strange trip for the one time Elite Superfriends Constitutional Strike Team Task Force member who vowed to overturn an election and got suspended from the practice of law. She’s even abandoned her @jennaellisesq Twitter handle, where she used to describe herself as a doctor and also a constitutional law expert on the basis of a couple of books on the dangers of gay marriage and a post teaching pre-law to undergrads. Nowadays she’s just @realjennaellis, a “servant of Jesus Christ” and a “radio host” who tweets anti-trans memes and other culture war irrelevancies.
Oh, and star witness for the prosecution. No doubt she’ll be adding that any day now.
