Democratic-sponsored legislation that would add create two judicial districts, while making Erie, Monroe and Onondaga counties their own districts effective in January 2027, has passed in the legislature, in an effort to diversify the bench in urban hubs in Central and Western New York. However, a political foe said the proposal attempts to “gerrymander” the judiciary.
