Andy Birchfield, of Beasley Allen, took the stand on Wednesday to fend off Johnson & Johnson’s allegations that he breached his ethical duties by working with one of its former lawyers to come up with a proposed $19 billion talc settlement.

       

Andy Birchfield took the stand on Wednesday to fend off Johnson & Johnson’s allegations that he breached his ethical duties by working with one of its former lawyers to come up with a proposed $19 billion talcum powder settlement.

Johnson & Johnson has alleged that Birchfield, of Beasley Allen, partnered with James Conlan, who was outside counsel while as a partner at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath until 2022, to push a the proposal, which was more than double the $8.9 billion settlement offered last year in the bankruptcy of subsidiary LTL Management.
