Legal chiefs rarely get the nod to run professional sports franchises, but Green Bay has viewed Ed Policy as more than a lawyer for a long time.
The Green Bay Packers have promoted Ed Policy, the team’s general for the past dozen years, to CEO, effective with the July 2025 retirement of current CEO Mark Murphy.
The GC-to-CEO promotion is rare one in the world of professional sports, but in this case is not a surprise. The community-owned franchise signaled its faith in Policy’s business and strategy skills by giving him the additional title of chief operating officer in 2018.
