No one really cares that you’re a lawyer.

Someone has yet again confused their J.D. for something normal people actually care about. It did not work out. For anyone keeping score, threatening someone — restaurants, airlines, and definitely the police — “I’m a lawyer” is now something like 0 and 85 gazillion.
The problem for attorneys is that most folks understand that the overwhelming majority of “lawyers” are just paper-pushers and the handful of bareknuckle litigators out there know that their power in the courtroom isn’t translating to happy hour at Chili’s.
An attorney in California recently found herself in an altercation with the staff of a family restaurant. We don’t see the beginning of this showdown, but we do see “I am a lawyer” run headlong into “a couple of cops.”
And how did this all work out for her?
This is only one side of the event, but the TikToker who posted that video added another elaborating on how things got to that point.
To be serious for a moment, lawyering can be a hard drinking profession, but when it starts interfering with your ability to enjoy a Bloomin’ Onion without the cops escorting you out, it might be time to consider if there might be a deeper issue that needs to be addressed. If you or someone you know is in need of help, please call a lawyer assistance program in your state.
Still, “But I’m A Lawyer” doesn’t just crop up because someone’s drunk. They LIVE that life. They wake up every day thinking that law license makes them better than the hoi polloi. And until they have a serious reset, they’ll keep whipping it out no matter how many times they’re told, “Ma’am, this is an Arby’s.”
