Republicans questioned No l Wise—a state court judge who is the White House’s choice to serve on the Northern District of California federal bench—over her writings, which some argued veered into political commentary.

State Judge Noël Wise of California faced intense questions Wednesday as multiple Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee suggested she is too outspoken on political issues to serve on the federal judiciary.

“I believe you are a zealous advocate who wants to be a judge and an advocate all at the same time,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, told Wise during Wednesday’s hearing. “You ought to get into politics, not be promoted as a judge.”
